In 2025, the Swiss Federal Council decided to comprehensively revise the Reproductive Medicine Act (FMedG) to adapt it to changing societal settings. The focus is on legalizing egg donation and opening up egg and sperm donation to unmarried couples. The upcoming complete revision of the FMedG raises a number of fundamental and regulatory questions that have not yet been resolved. The Center for Life Sciences-Law (ZLSR) has been monitoring the dynamic development of reproductive medicine law for several years through international and interdisciplinary workshops. The current research project uses the ongoing legislative process for the reform of the FMedG as an opportunity to discuss the legal policy reform proposals from a legal and social science perspective. The results will be published in an edited volume and thus contributed to the political debate. By demonstrating a willingness to adapt reproductive medicine law in an innovative manner to new technological and societal settings, legislators and legal scholars are fulfilling their responsibility to critically monitor and shape the legal framework.
