Concours René Cassin 2024/2025 (EMRK)

For the next Moot Court Concours René Cassin, we have put together a team that will represent the University of Basel before the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). Unfortunately, further registrations for the Concours René Cassin can no longer be accepted.

The Moot Court passes in two phases, a written and an oral phase: First, the team drafts a brief on a fictitious case by January 2025 and then makes its plea at the premises of the Council of Europe and the ECHR in Strasbourg.

In preparation for the Moot Court, three inputs on the ECHR are offered, including how to deal with the case law of the ECtHR. As participation extends over two semesters, course registration takes place in both HS 24 and FS 25.

The dates for the three inputs on the ECHR will take place on October 4, 2024, November 8, 2024 and December 6, 2024 from 10:15 to 12:00 in seminar room S4, HG.56, JBH . The dates for the case processing are agreed within the team. The team will be provided with a workroom in the library for the duration of the process.

Assessment format: Participants create a dossier during the process, which is submitted and assessed at the end of FS 25. The dossier consists of three parts: the analysis of an ECHR decision, the participants' own contribution to the legal text and a reflection on the entire project. At the end, participants receive a seminar certificate and an individual grade. By arrangement, the academic achievements for a small or large master's thesis can also be completed as part of the moot court.
