Dies Academicus ceremony

Honours of the Faculty of Law

On the occasion of the Dies Academicus celebrations, the Faculty of Law of the University of Basel annually awards the honorary doctorate and the faculty prize.

Honorary doctorate

At the annual Dies academicus, the Faculty of Law awards an honorary doctorate to a person for their special academic, scientific, cultural or public services.

 

Faculty Award

The Faculty of Law awards the Faculty Prize, donated by VISCHER AG in the amount of CHF 5,000, at the annual Dies academicus to the person with the best average grade in the previous year, taking into account all degrees (BLaw, MLaw, lic.iur. and dissertation).

Professor Walther Hug Prize

The Professor Walther Hug Prize is awarded to the best legal dissertations on Swiss law. The thesis must concern Swiss law or be related to Swiss law. The Professor Walther Hug Prize amounts to CHF 3000 and is presented together with a certificate in the name of the Foundation at the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Law.

böckli bühler partner prize

The böckli bühler partner prize is awarded to the best Bachelor's and Master's degree. The prize amounts to CHF 1500 each and is presented together with a certificate in the name of böckli bühler partner at the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Law to the person with the best average grade in a graduation year.

Amerbach Prize

The University of Basel awards the Amerbach Prize to promote and honor young academics. The prize amounts to CHF 5000 and is awarded together with a medal at the annual Dies academicus. The prize is awarded on the basis of a prize-winning paper or a valuable scientific achievement that has already been recognized. The prizewinners are designated in turn by the faculties.

Emilie Louise Frey Prize

The Emilie Louise Frey Prize is awarded to outstanding master's or doctoral theses by young female academics. The prize amounts to CHF 2000 and is awarded together with a certificate in the name of the Basel section of the Swiss Association of Women Academics at the annual Dies academicus of the University of Basel. The prizewinners are named in turn by the faculties.
