Onur Dur is currently doing his Ph.D. at the University of Basel. His research project focused on the “Relationship between Counter-Terrorism Law and Insurance Law” with particular emphasis on the economic sanctions linked with terrorism and financing of terrorism. He is also co-founder and member of current Executive Board of Directors of Istanbul Center of International Law where he is the General Coordinator since 2012.
Mr. Dur graduated from Galatasaray Law School in 2016. He successfully completed his LLM in International Law at Geneva Graduate Institute in 2018. Onur’s thesis was entitled as “Interaction between Laws of War and Insurance Law: Definition of War and Allied Perils.”
Mr. Dur attended numerous international summer and winter schools. He participated Humboldt University Berlin Germany on International Human Rights Law in 2013. In 2014 He participated Adam Mickiewicz University (Poland): Minority Rights, Salzburg University (Austria): International Criminal Law, King’s College London (UK): International Refugee Law, Ruhr University Bochum (Germany): Humanitarian Action and European University Institute (Italy): Religious Freedom. In 2015 he participated Helsinki University (Finland): International Law Seminar, Ludwig Maximilien University Munich (Germany): Munich Advanced Course on International Law, Leiden University & Istanbul University (Turkey): Law on Bosphorus, University of Geneva (Switzerland): International Humanitarian Law and Moscow High School of Economics (Russia): Social Sciences and Humanities. In 2016 he participated Luzern University (Switzerland): Human Rights Implementation Academy. In 2017, Onur represented the Geneva Graduate Institute at the Law without Walls which is a cooperation of Miami Law School and Harvard Law School. At the same year, he was also selected by European Space Agency for its prestigious summer school on International Space Law. Also, he represented Galatasaray University at René Cassin Human Right Competition in 2015 (France) and Jean Pictet International Humanitarian Law Competition in 2016 (France).
His primary researches are focusing on Public International Law, International Humanitarian Law, and Insurance Law.
His mother tongue is Turkish. He speaks fluently English and French. He is currently learning German.
